As the new season of the Premier League kicks off, football predictions are on everyone’s mind. With a fresh start, new signings, and high expectations, fans are eager to see how their favorite teams will perform. BBC Sport’s prediction expert Chris Sutton is back with his predictions, and this time, he’s facing off against a guest for each of the 38 game weeks. Sutton is confident about his chances, saying, “I am hoping to get more of a challenge from you lot. Last season it turned into a bit of a canter for me – I’ve just been too good.”

Week 1 Predictions: A New Season Brings New Challenges

The first weekend of the season is always tricky to predict, and this time is no exception. With many teams still finding their footing, it’s difficult to make accurate predictions. However, Sutton is confident about his picks, and he’s starting with the Manchester United vs. Fulham match.

Sutton’s prediction: 1-1

Liam Fray, the frontman of The Courteeners, is Sutton’s opponent for the opening round of games. Fray is a Manchester United fan and is feeling optimistic about the new season under Erik ten Hag. “We have been so unlucky to pick up more injuries, but with these new signings, we look like we mean business,” he said.

Fulham, on the other hand, has had a pretty decent season last time out, and Sutton thinks they might get something out of this match. “I can see them getting something this time, too. I can only base these predictions on what I see, and I have not seen enough good performances from United under Ten Hag to have any confidence in them playing well.”

Other Week 1 Matches: A Look at the Rest of the Fixtures

Other notable matches in the first week include Liverpool vs. Ipswich, Arsenal vs. Wolves, and Manchester City vs. Chelsea. Sutton is predicting a 1-3 win for Liverpool against Ipswich, while Liam Fray thinks it will be a 0-2 win for the Reds.

In the Arsenal vs. Wolves match, Sutton is predicting a 2-0 win for the Gunners, while Fray thinks it will be a 2-1 win. As for the Manchester City vs. Chelsea match, Sutton is predicting a 1-2 win for City, while Fray thinks it will be a 0-2 win.

Can Anyone Stop Manchester City?

Manchester City is looking strong, and many people are tipping them to win the Premier League again. Sutton thinks that City will find a way to win against Chelsea, despite some of their stars not playing. “I have no idea what to expect from Chelsea, and I don’t even know what the club is trying to do anymore. Is their priority to build a team to win trophies, or is there some other business strategy going on?”

The Rise of Tottenham

Tottenham is another team that’s looking strong, and Sutton thinks they will have a good season under Ange Postecoglou. “I don’t think it will bother Postecoglou, though. He will just plough through it. He has managed for a long time and has had huge success.”

Sutton is predicting a 1-3 win for Tottenham against Leicester, while Fray thinks it will be a 0-2 win. With the new season just starting, it’s anyone’s guess how the teams will perform. One thing is for sure, though – it’s going to be an exciting season of football.

As the season progresses, we’ll see how Sutton’s predictions hold up, and whether he can retain his title as the top prediction expert. With new signings, new managers, and high expectations, this season is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory.
